From the Bottom Up — One Roof at a Time

Today, we want to take a moment to share the real story and the journey behind Top Dog Contracting LLC.

A lot of people see where we are today, but we definitely did not start big. Our owner, Carmelo Mendoza, started this business young — he had been doing heavy roofing labor since he was 13, so he knew how to work hard, but he had zero experience running a business or making sales. All he had was a vision to help people get quality work done at fair prices.

When we first opened, we were strictly a roofing company. But starting out, jobs were slow. To keep the dream alive, Carmelo took on whatever work came his way — mowing lawns, landscaping, leaf removal, pulling weeds, gutter cleaning, and demolition jobs. Back then, he was driving a borrowed 2001 Nissan Frontier with no trailer. For the bigger jobs, he did not even have the equipment, so he would rent a U-Haul truck just to pick up materials or rent equipment to get the job done.

The Hard Times

The road was tough. There were dry weeks and long months where no paychecks were coming in at all. Running a business young meant facing real uncertainty, but he refused to let those hard times push him to stop the journey. Every single day work was slow, he hit the streets, marketed, and kept pushing forward. It was that refusal to give up that got him through.

Where We Are Today

Perseverance changed everything. After two years of nonstop hustling, we finally bought our first official company truck — a Ram 2500 Diesel — and our own dump trailer. Today, we are fully established and able to provide our customers with top-tier, reliable services at truly affordable prices, backed by real workmanship warranties.

Giving Back to Our Community

Because we never gave up, we are now in a position to give back. We just wrapped up our 2nd Annual Back-to-School Event, handing out backpacks filled with supplies to over 100 local families. Seeing those smiles touches our hearts every time, and this event is a tradition we plan on continuing for years to come.

We built this company from the absolute bottom — one mowed lawn, one rented U-Haul, and one roof at a time. Thank you to every customer who trusted us back then and who continues to support Top Dog Contracting today. We are just getting started.

To Anyone Starting a New Business

Do not let the slow days or the empty bank account make you quit. You might start in a borrowed truck, renting equipment, or doing jobs outside your comfort zone just to survive — and that is completely okay. The weeks with no paychecks are tests, not the end of your story. Stay hungry, keep marketing even when it feels like no one is watching, and hold onto your purpose. If you do not give up, your hard work will pay off, and one day you will look back at where you started and be proud that you kept going.
